Intergamma

strategy - lead design - ux design

With a total of 384 stores and a combined revenue close to 2B, Intergamma is the biggest supplier in DIY products in the Netherlands and Belgium. The digital channels they expose to millions of clients were starting to become outdated and needed attention. More specifically, the mobile channels.

The ask

In 2020 Intergamma asked us to form a strategy for their brands; Gamma the Netherlands, Gamma Belgium and Karwei, focussing on the mobile touchpoints. they asked for a clear vision and a thorough execution plan.

The answer

We started by diving into the Intergamma organisation and the different markets that are being served through the different brands. We interviewed stakeholders and clients, visited stores, benchmarked the market and got familiar with the overall, long term strategy.

By the end of 2020 I presented the new mobile strategy and following roadmap to the stakeholders, ending the year with a lot of energy to make this vision happen.

In 2021 we got the honour of turning the strategy into actual products, starting with the apps.

The team was scaled-up once more and we started with 4 design-only sprints. The concepts for each brand were validated with clients in the Netherlands and Belgium. After some iterations both the end-users (or clients) and Intergamma stakeholders were excited with the new approach.

From there on we started detail design and fired up development, which is still in progress. The base for all creative work is a new, multi brand Design System my team delivered. In this system the components that define the different brands are documented along the brand specific rationales.
